This fine wooden carved plate comes from China and was made in the 1950s or 1960s. It has a rectangular shape and has a smart black frame enhanced by a slim golden strip. The carving is attached to a red velvet passé-partout which highlights the deep golden finish of the carving. The wooden is profusely carved in high relief, so deep that the motives seem to come out of the frame to become sculptures. The wooden plate depicts a nature scene with two birds sitting among big flowers with their stems and leaves. The image is quite harmonious and shows great realism and detail. The birds are sitting on two branches in the top of the carving, and over them the big and majestic flowers show off among their own leaves and stems. It is a nature scene full of charm and ingenuity that depicts the birds and flowers typical of Eastern imagery. The plate has a peculiar shape; its left side is thicker than the right one and is deeply beveled inwards. On this side the carving is very deep, becoming thinner as we come close to the right. Maybe the artist tried to create a strong perspective which gave a bigger sense of depth, and the truth is that he or she succeeded. The birds and the flowers seem to be alive and we feel as if they were about to come out of the carving and start moving. The great realism of the scene, the perfection of the carving work and the beautiful golden finish make if this piece a very special work of art, which will stand out on the wall of the most stylish room. Measurements (with frame): 390 mm width x 510 mm height.
