Big Chinese porcelain vase made at the end of 19th century or the beginning of the XX century. This is a beautiful antique piece with delicate colors and big in size, which belongs to a type of Chinese porcelain called Famille Rose (Pink Family). This is the name given in France to some kind of porcelain pieces which were made from the early 18th century on, when a new palette evolved adding pink to the rainbow of enamels. Its export lasted into the early 20th century. Currently, Famille Rose porcelains are highly esteemed because their great beauty and fine decoration. This vase is a very representative piece of the type and is decorated with cocks sitting on trees and on the ground. In the Chinese horoscope, the cock is the symbol of heroism and romanticism, and it is considered the most independent and misunderstood of all the signs. The vases mouth, neck and base bear Oriental abstract borders painted in pastel shades: blue, yellow and pink. There is also another border at the top with images of fruits. These details frame the scenes which have the roosters as leading figures, and which cover the neck and the centre of the vase. The birds are painted in different colors and show a skilful and spontaneous outline. They adopt different positions: singing, looking at the viewer Some of them are on the ground while others sit on the leafy trees branches. As it is characteristic of Famille Rose porcelain, the scenes show many flowers, plants and butterflies flying in the air. Both the neck and the base of the piece bear the typical furnace mark, a brownish tone due to the heat produced during the firing process.
