Exceptional Chinese white porcelain plate with blue decorations and glazed finish. This is an antique piece which dates from the 19th century, the end of the Qing Dynasty. This dynasty started in the 17th century (year 1664) and ended in the 19th century, when the last emperor (Puyi, known as Xuantong Emperor) abdicated in 1912. This plates beauty is enhanced by the nice glaze which covers the porcelain, protecting the blue decorations with a thick glossy finish in which we can appreciate tiny bubbles produced during the glazing process. The plate is in good condition in spite of the slight dents of the border, which do not prevent it from being a truly original piece, incredibly beautiful and antique. The plate is decorated with a border with flowers and waves, but the most interesting part is surely the central decoration. The circular surface is divided in four equal parts, and in the center there is a circle with a blue butterfly painted in it. Each part bears a battle scene with different figures right into the heart of the battle. Some characters are riding horses and are probably important figures; they are holding flags with Chinese ideograms on them. These figures are surrounded by soldiers on foot who are holding big swords. The figures expressions are very attention-drawing and show the anger and the concentration that the battle demands. The scenes are very dramatic and show a great sense of movement and expressiveness, and the artist has managed to perform real works of art in such small surfaces. It we turn the plate upside down we will see that the outside border is decorated with delicate blue branches or wreaths, while the center bears four Chinese ideograms. This compendium of features makes of this exclusive plate a valuable Chinese porcelain piece, perfect to stand out in any important shelf or showcase. Measurements: 280 mm diameter.
