Striking Chinese bamboo piece, skillfully hand-carved with high care and accuracy. This piece is quite big: 65 centimeters long. It is horn-shaped and stands on a curved bamboo base. The artisan who made this sculpture around the middle of the 20th century chose a piece of bamboo root whose shape was compatible with the work. The piece consists of two parts: the main part and the root piece on which it stands. This is quite smaller and provides the piece with lightness and elegance. The front of the root is profusely carved, depicting two elegant Chinese dragons on a background of curly sea waves. This beautiful piece is carved with deep relief. The carved motives are very deep, and the resulting work is almost sculptural. The gaps between the curly waves and the twisting dragons are so deeply carved that the artist has removed the wood completely, and the openwork goes through the material. The waves crests are also accurately and beautifully performed. The figures base is also carved, though less thoroughly. Its bottom part shows a carving depicting the sea, with a curly wave in the middle. The back of the root is free of carvings, and the wood is shown in the rough. The contrast between the delicate work that we appreciate on the front and the rough wood at the rear provides this lovely Chinese piece with even more beauty and charm. As well as being a great example of the art of carving, this figure is also in very good condition. All this turns it into a first class decorative item which will embellish the most elegant corner of the house. Measurements: 650 mm length x 380 mm height.
