Beautiful porcelain vase was made in China between the 19th and 20th centuries. This kind of porcelain is known as Blanc de Chine, in French, and began to be made on a large scale at Jingdezen and other southern places during the Song dynasty (960-1279). In the 14th century it was eclipsed by the Blue and White Porcelain. The vegetal decoration that embellishes the vase depicts a peach tree branch with a lot of leaves and fruits. In Chinese culture, peaches are very important fruits as they symbolize longevity. This vase is simple and stylized, and the porcelain it is made of is hand-made and of the highest quality. The decoration does not cover the whole surface but is asymmetrical: on one side, the branch goes from bottom to top and the leaves and fruits are everywhere, while on the other we scarcely see some small branches with flowers and fruits covering the bottom. Both the big branch and the smaller ones sprout from the same point, and they are connected to the vase through a relief in the shape of a root which creates the illusion of a tree growing from the porcelain. It is undoubtedly a wonderful work, quite fine and highly aesthetical. The vase is in good condition except for a slight dent in the mouth and some small flaw, almost imperceptible, in the decoration. The off-white color typical of this kind of porcelain provides the piece with subtleness and elegance, and enhances the beauty of the delicately performed decoration. Overall this is a quality piece with a great aesthetic attractive, which joins its artisanal work with its old age to make up a real collectors item. Measurements: 290 mm height x 193 mm width.
