Gorgeous antique feng-shui compass made in China circa 1900, in very good condition and excellent working order. This piece is a delicate antique with all the beauty of oriental decorative arts. These items are known as Luo Pan or LoPan and are composed of a traditional magnetic compass embedded in a circular wooden piece. Around the compass there are usually a series of concentric circles with practical information for the application of feng shui techniques in decoration and architecture. The compass that we can see in the images is made of ebony-like finished wood and shows embedded bone details with hand-drawn images. The wood is somewhat warped for the trace of time but still remains in good condition. Surrounding the compass and the circles with information we can see twelve bone circular pieces with images of the animals of the Chinese horoscope. The compasss lid is decorated with a central bone piece decorated with a scene depicting a man and a woman with a deer. Around this central motive we can see eight medals with different ideograms and symbols. At the compasss base we can see one more bone piece containing the Ying Yang symbol and a red mark accompanied by a signature or inscription.
