Exotic smart Chinese white porcelain urn made in the late 19th century. This piece is made of blanc de Chine porcelain, a kind of pottery whose name that can be translated into white from China and is manufactured in the Asiatic country from Ming Dynasty (14-17th century) til the present day. This porcelain is also known as Dehua porcelain as it started being produced in Dehua, a village in the Fujian province. The urn is in excellent condition and is hand-decorated with different images of Guanyin, a Buddhist female deity related to compassion. The images of this character almost cover the whole body of the piece and they are seven in number. Each one is framed by a curved border and is slightly different from the others: the pose changes and also some small details in the clothing. Otherwise the images are quite similar: all of them depict the deity standing on a rocky ground and with her top surrounded by a big sun in the background. Under these images we can see a wide oriental style fringe, simple and abstract. The neck and handles boast a decoration of embossed floral motives, and just over them we can see four Chinese ideograms with a square frame.Between the urns neck and the images of Guanyin there is a square-shaped stamp which probably reproduces the artisans signature or his workshops mark. Overall this piece boasts a great condition, with no cracks, bumps or missing parts. The embossed and carved motives are deep and delicate, and the images show a high attention to detail (the folding of the clothes, the jewels, the accessories and flowers) that embellishes it greatly. Guanyin deity is actually a Buddhist bodhisattva whose name is Avalokitesvara; her Chinese name means the one who listens to the world moan. People usually invoke her in dangerous or difficult moments. The soft glow that the porcelain glaze provides this urn is the final touch that turns this piece into an exclusive item, a hundred per cent original and whose big size will let it shine in the most elegant room.Measurements: Width: 280 mm.
