Fine wig and hat holder made on hand-decorated white porcelain. This delicate piece dates from the 19th century, specifically from the time when Emperor Tongzhi ruled over China. This emperor reigned from 1861 to 1875, when he died, and was the ninth emperor of the Qing Dynasty. This particular piece was made during his reign and though it is certainly very old, has survived to our days in quite good condition. It is made of white porcelain and is hexagonal in shape; outside is fully hand-decorated with charming drawings performed in various colors.The motives that embellish the holder depict different characters dressed in traditional garments. Among them we can see distinguished dignitaries with their servants and also country men, musicians, dancers and elegant dames. There are also natural sceneries such as rocks in various shapes, trees, flowers, plants and animals. The characters look happy and relaxed and the whole scene exudes an air of quietness. The artist that performed the decoration was surely a master as the paintings are fluid, precise, tasteful and skillfully sketched.The wig shows the typical furnace mark at the top and the bottom. It has a reconstruction at the top; furthermore it is in good condition and its delicate colors and elegant strokes are as beautiful as when the piece was fired, more than one hundred years ago. If we turn the holder upside down we will find a red stamp printed at the base, which indicates the time when the piece was made. There is also a bit of brown wax with remains of fabric attached to it. This lovely wig and hat holder is an original and appealing article, a valuable antique Chinese porcelain piece whose excellent design will make it stand out in the best collection.Measurements: Width: 120 mm.
