Fascinating antique Chinese libation cup made of buffalo horn and in really good condition. This fine cup is decorated with hand-carved motifs all over its surface. The motifs are typical of Chinese decorative pieces, composed of delicate borders with floral-inspired curved shapes. Centuries ago, these recipients were infused with a sacred role and were used for ritual libations. It was a common belief that animal-origin materials (just like the buffalo horn this cup is piece of) reacted with poisons, so these cups were intended to identify a supposed risk of poisoning.
