Original lithography on paper made by the Spanish painter, engraver and sculptor Juan Garcia Ripollés, signed and numbered. This work belongs to a limited edition of 100 copies. The lithography is numbered LXIII/C (63/100); we can see the number clearly written by hand on the own work. Ripolléss signature can also be seen to the left of the lithography, just by the figures hand. The image depicts a cubist-style human figure; it seems to be a man dressed in formal suit who is leaning on a railing or a table. The lithography is made on engraving paper and shows the irregular borders typical of the artisanal material used in this technique. The color use in this lithography is quite interesting; moreover, it is a usual feature of Ripolléss works. The image shows a clear predominance of blue shades combined with black, white and touches of yellow and red. This palette shows a fine balanced combination that makes up a very special work. The figure, whose face shows clearly the influence of cubism, is smiling as he leans on the bottom railing. The two red shapes (one of them seems to symbolize the figures heart) break the uniformity of the cool colors and create touches of visual interest that provide the composition with a considerable appeal. The lithography comes with a copy of a text written by the artist where he talks about engraving techniques; both are mounted on a discreet white frame. Original, signed and really attractive, this lithography by Juan G. Ripollés will stand out anywhere for its strong personality and remarkable beauty. His work includes paintings, engravings and sculptures. Ripolles had a though childhood and had to work as a scrap dealer and industrial painter, but his passion for art made him attend evening classes in the School of Arts and Crafts of Castellon, the city where he spent his childhood and adolescence. In 1954 he moved to Paris where he strived to reach his maximum goal: becoming a painter. Four years later he exposed his paintings in the famous Drouand David art gallery, where masters such as Picasso or Chagall had hung their paintings before. In the 1960s he returns to Spain and lives in different places: Seville, Cordoba, Chipiona and Cercedilla (Madrid). In 2010 he goes back to Castellon de la Plana where he currently lives and works. Juan Garcia Ripollés has been awarded the Gold Flagship of Alzira and the Valencia Award to the Arts. His works are spread all over the world in galleries, collections, museums and public spaces.
