This document is an exceptional piece, an original lithography from 1931 that reproduces the Manifesto of the Spanish Republic, wonderfully illustrated and illuminated and signed by historical politicians such as Indalecio Prieto, Largo Caballero or Manuel Azaña. Its historical relevance is enhanced by an impressive beauty: the text is delicately handwritten, with big and colorful capital letters starting each paragraph. The decorative motives and fringes that frame the text are wonderful too, full of bright colors and in an art deco style much to the taste of the era. The Manifesto of the Spanish Republic was signed by the Spanish republican leaders in 1931, after the derogation of the monarchy embodied by King Alfonso XIII (delegitimized after approving Primo de Riveras dictatorship). The Republic was proclaimed in April 14th, after the polls on April 12th that gave the power to the republicans and put a stop to the brief government of the admiral Juan Francisco Aznar and to the reign of Alfonso XIII. The first place in raising the republican flag was the Basque city of Eibar The etching that we can see in these images is an original from the time that reproduces the document with the politicians signatures. It is not a printed facsimile but a real etching, quite rare and with very few copies remaining. At the bottom part we can see the names of the prestigious calligrapher Benito de Diego and of the illustrator that performed the amazing motives that decorate the document, Vicente Alonso. We can also read the name and address of the atelier where the etching was printed: LIT. FERNÁNDEZ, Madrid. In the illuminated fringe there are two circles containing the names of two republican heroes, Fermín Galán and A. García Hernández, shot after leading the Uprising of Jaca. This etching is a basic piece to understand Spains recent history, undeniably beautiful and whose relevance survives the trace of time. Measurements: Width: 23.2 in/59 cm. Height: 78 in/30.7 cm.
