This incredible sound reproducing machine has been restored, from the oak wooden box to the bright red lacquered metal horn. The motor has been revised and adjusted too, so nowadays the gramophone sounds wonderfully and provides an excellent reproduction. All this singular devices components are original and greatly preserved. As stated before, this is a His Masters Voice (HMV) gramophone, made for the French market. The famous logo of the company can be seen in a sticker located at the front side of the box that has remained almost complete. This curious name comes from the title of a picture made by English painter Francis Barraud, who painted the portrait of the dog Nipper listening to a phonograph that reproduced his deceased masters voice. The Gramophone Company acquired the picture in1899, although the artist had to modify the work so it depicted one of the companys gramophones instead of a phonograph. From 1901 on, the Gramophone Company started using the logo and the name all around the world and not only in the United Kingdom. This gramophone box is made if oak wood and has been protected and embellished by the French polish finish that provides it with glow and depth. The arm that holds the reproducer and the horn is connected to the box by a black iron elbow. The horn is a striking piece: made of bright red lacquered metal, with lobed design and golden nerves, is surely the most attractive part of this device. The reproducer is also a His Masters Voice piece, model No 4: we can read this data on it. On the front side of the box, the sticker remains almost intact except for some slight signs of wear.Measurements: Box: Width: 375 mm. Height: 170 mm. Horn: Longitud: 740 mm.
