This nice article is a portable Excelda Thorens gramophone made in Switzerland in the 1930s. These reproducers compact design and small size got them to be known as folding camera gramophones for 10records. This was so because when folded they resemble a camera. This particular model boasts a great white and blue crackled finish and is in quite good condition. It provides an excellent working order and can reproduce gramophone records with the same sound quality as when it was made.The Excelda portable gramophones were produced during the 1930s and 40s. The Thorens Excelda was one of the last and most successful designs. It was launched in 1932 and kept on being produced until the mid-1940s. The devices small case can store the tone arm, the winding handle and the diagragm. As well as the finish that this particular gramophone shows, the Excelda model was also available in black, green, red and brown crackled finishes. These reproducers are widely acknowledged due their great design and reliability.This particular model has a small oval plate screwed to the case where we can read the following inscription: PATENTED MADE IN SWITZERLAND. The gramophones name, EXCELDA, is engraved in the black handle designed to carry the article. To start the record player the user has to unscrew the silvery metal screw located on the cover and use it to mount the small turntable for the records. On one side we can see a small mobile plate designed to start and stop the gramophone and to control the reproduction speed.Any good collector of vintage musical reproducer will appreciate this magnificent Excelda gramophones charm.Measurements (unfolded): Width: 10.6 in/ 27 cm.
