HMV Suitcase Gramophone, 1934.

This lovely suitcase gramophone is especially remarkable because of its bright blue outside covering, quite a rare color for this kind of design. It is an original His Masters Voice HMV gramophone, made in England by the famous gramophone and record company. This is a portable model located inside a compact rectangular suitcase with original handle and lock. The suitcase, as stated before, is covered by blue faux-leather all over its surface (inside and outside) and draws our attention for being in excellent condition in spite of its old age.The gramophone works wonderfully. Its motor is the original one, very silent, and the reproducer provides an impeccable sound quality. It is model 102, an evolved design that includes a record tray (located on the turntable) and automatic start-up and stop system. Inside the cover we can see the brands logo and name: the classic image of the dog listening to a horn gramophone. This image dates from 1899, when Francis Barraud painted the dog Nipper listening to his deceased masters voice. He sold the picture to the Gramophone Company; the firm adopted the title as their motto and later it became their market name.The printed logo is in wonderful condition and its colors look bright and clear. Over the picture we can see the name His Masters Voice printed in golden lettering. The suitcase contains the gramophones motor, turntable and the rest of the elements needed to play the records. When not in use, these pieces can be stored into a compartment located behind the turntable. The arm and the reproducer are made of silvery metal, in great condition and as shiny as the first day. The crank is also well preserved, and so are the suitcase lock and carrying handle.This blue suitcase gramophone is a great piece, not only because of its fine original look but also for its excellent working order.
