Elegant Restored and Working HMV Gramophone. England, ca. 1930

Sober and elegant antique table top gramophone made in England by the famous brand His Masters Voice. This device dates from the 1930s and it is model nº 104A, a design noted for its excellent sound and attractive design. This gramophone has been carefully restored and is in magnificent condition. The wood bears a warm French-polish finish that enhances its beauty and the motor has been fine-tuned to guarantee the best performance. These reasons turn the gramophone into a first-class article, an original and special piece. Inside the cover-loudspeaker we can see the classic His Masters Voice logo depicting a dog listening to a gramophone. The logo comes from a picture by Francis Barraud that depicts the dog Nipper listening to his dead owners voice coming from one of these devices horn. In 1899 Barraud sold the picture to the Gramohpone & Typewriter Company after having changed the original phonograph by one of their gramophones. With the trace of time, the company kept its original market name by was mainly known under the brand name His Masters Voice (HMV). This lovely table top gramophone has solid oak wooden box with openwork at the front. The gaps are covered by a thin fabric that lets out the sound and provides air to refresh the motor. All the component parts are original and the reproducer or soundbox stands out among them: it is a His Masters Voice Nº5A (we can see this inscription engraved in the piece), famous for its high quality and probably one of the best reproducers ever. Attached to the box we can see a small metal plate with the models number (104A) and an engraved inscription that suggest quoting this number when searching for spares.
