This rare suitcase gramophone is a Primaphone made in Switzerland circa 1929. It is an attractive device, very well preserved and in working order. The wooden suitcase has been restored so the gramophone can boast a wonderful look. The box shines with a bright glow and the metal locks and reinforcements are in good condition, with no traces of rust. At the top of the lid we can see an original and beautiful sticker depicting a set of musical instruments accompanied by flowers and birds. The motive is well preserved and is almost complete. Inside the lid we can see a wooden plank that hides a compartment designed to store the records. This plank bears a sticker with the name of the model, PRIMAPHONE, and the inscriptions Made in Switzerland Head Office Bombay. Primaphone gramophones were manufactured by the Swiss maker Thorens for the Indian market, where they were distributed by the Bombay Phono and General Agency. This is why the gramophone box bears another circular sticker with a royal crown and the words PRIMAPHONE TRADE MARK BOMBAY. This gramophones box is made of mahogany wood, whose magnificent dark red color makes a nice contrast with the shiny silvery metal parts. The reproduce bears an inscription that reads THE MELTROPE III and at the back we can see a series of small embossed letters that make up the sentence BRITISH MADE: The gramophone works fine and sounds wonderfully, a feature that together with its ancient age and beauty turns it into a real find. This suitcase gramophone is bound to shine in the most aristocratic and original living room. Measurements: Width: 11.8 in/30 cm. Height: 7 in/18 cm. Depth: 16.5 in/42 cm.
