This singular piece, antique and fully original, is a gramophone soundbox or reproducer made in Germany in the 1920-30s. It comes in its original case and has survived to our days in very good condition. It can be attached to a gramophone with the same connection diameter (18mm). The soundbox is made of black-lacquered iron, with the front side made of silvery metal and polished brass. The brass piece has several holes at the edge, designed to let the sound out; the center is decorated with an embossed profile of Ludwig van Beethoven accompanied by the name of the famous compositor. The cases lid has the word Parlophon printed in the shape of an elegant signature. It corresponds to Parlophone Records Ltd, a company founded in 1896 in Germany under the Parlophon name. The British branch was formed in 1923 and with the trace of time it became very renowned as a jazz label. In 1926 the company was acquired by the Columbia Gramophone Company, together with the label name and its titles. This amazing soundbox was manufactured by the prestigious company and boasts the same quality as the rest of their products. At the back of the piece we can see a series of engraved inscriptions with the European patents. The first one (D.R.P.) corresponds to the German patent; the second, to the British one; the third is the Swiss patent and the fourth, the US patent. As stated before, the case where the soundbox can be stored is the original one; it is made of wood and lined with dark red faux leather. Inside the soundbox rests on a base covered by green velvet, and the lid shows a blue satin inner covering. This soundbox is a very special piece, perfect to be mounted on an antique and stately gramophone. Measurements: Diameter: 2.5 in / 6.5 cm. Connection diameter (outer): 18 mm.
