This great table gramophone is an English model made by the firm Alba, perfectly preserved and in good working order. Its design is a real classic from the first half of the 20th century, and it has survived to our days in excellent condition. The cabinet is made of solid oak wood, also well preserved and with a nice French-polish finish. The motor is the original one: it has been revised and fine-tuned to guarantee an impeccable sound. The rest of the component parts and pieces are also original from the era, making up a beautiful and interesting item. If we lift the gramophones cover, inside we will find a nice rectangular black sticker with the inscription THE ALBA GRAMOPHONE printed in gold lettering. Alba was the trade name of the British company founded in 1917 by Alfred Balcombe, located in North London. Alfred Balcome hired skilled artisans of wood to make the cabinets for their gramophones, which mounted parts from Germany and Switzerland. The owner company, AJ Balcombe Ltd., was also dedicated to supplying parts and components to other gramophones firms. After the death of Alfred Balcome, in 1930, his son took over the company and later his grandson would do it until 1982, when the company closed. The Alba gramophones were characterized by their robust design and excellent working order. The model that we can see in the photographs has two small doors at the front; the horn is hidden behind them. They can be used to regulate the sound volume: the opener they are, the louder it will be listened. The arm, reproducer and crank are original and have remained in optimal condition; the reproducer or soundbox is an Alba Piccolo with the models name printed in gold, accompanied by the inscription BRITISH MADE. Very beautiful and working like new, this Alba gramophone is a real collectors piece. Measurements
