His Master's Voice No. 2 Gramophone reproducer, in good condition. England, Circa 1915

Gramophone reproducer or soundbox made in the early 20th century (circa 1915) by the prestigious record company His Masters Voice, in perfect working order and in its original case. This reproducer is a magnificent piece, great to be mounted in an antique gramophone. The article is in very good condition, and the same can be said about the case it comes in: a black faux-leather covered box with the golden brand name and logo printed in the cover. The logo, a dog listening to the sound that comes from a horn gramophone, became the image of the brand in 1899. That year the powerful Gramophone Company acquired the rights of the picture His Masters Voice, made by Francis Barraud, intending to turn the image into their logo and the pictures title into their motto. Both became so popular that eventually the company changed its own name for the motto. Curiously enough the picture depicts the dog Nipper, who belonged to the painters brother. After his masters death, the animal is shown listening to his recorded voice coming from a gramophone. As well as being engraved in the cases cover, the brand name is also printed in the reproducer. The article bears the inscription HIS MASTERS VOICE Nº 2 and the words THE GRAMOPHONE CO. LTD. HAYES, MIDDLESEX, ENGLAND printed under it. The inscription is printed in white lettering on a dark background and is very well preserved, being perfectly legible. The reproducer has been cleansed and fine-tuned to guarantee an impeccable operation. The case where it can be stored is covered inside by a fine dark blue velvet fabric; it will let the user keep it in great condition for many years on.
