This amazing horn gramophone is a luxury Parlophon model made in Germany in 1915. The article mounts a high-quality Thorens motor and has been fully restored in order to boast the striking look that we can appreciate in the images. The reproducer and the motor have also been checked and tuned so nowadays the gramophone works fine: the motor is quite silent and the sound comes out clearly. All the component parts are original, including the gorgeous chromed-metal horn. Parlophon brand was created by Carl Lindström in 1896 for the Carl Lindström Company. In the beginning, this market name was only applied to gramophones; later it was also used for records and musical recordings. In August 1923 the brand opened a British branch commanded by Oscar Preuss it was then when the final e of the brand name was added and it began to be known as Parlophone. The record company became worldly famous thanks to its relationship with The Beatles. The gramophone that we can see in these images has a solid oak wooden box with hand-carved moldings at the base and the top. The box is in perfect condition and shows off an impeccable finish. The chromed-metal parts have also been fully restored and display an amazing aesthetic beauty. Under the reproducer or soundbox we can see the serial number 3 A70361 engraved in the metal. The great horn is especially outstanding because of its intense glow and big size; it is in very good condition except for some slight signs of wear, barely visible. Last but not least, the gramophones motor bears the Thorens mark engraved in its metal case. RESTORATION PROCESS: This Parlophone has been almost fully restored and repaired: wood, horn, reproducer, chromes and motor. It had several aesthetic problems that can be clearly seen in the before and after pictures. The wood was open in two corners, there was some ornamentation missing, was dirty and had a hit in the bottom with loss of material. The current chrome, although its slightly worn at some points, is the original chrome. Fortunately, it only needed cleaning and polishing. It also had mechanical problems on the reproducer and dry rubbers. Now it has new rubbers, the mechanical problems have been corrected and it sounds great. The motor has been retuned and repaired. One of the springs was broken, the other almost broken, because the final spring catch was about to break. I cleaned up and replaced the dry grease, both springs have been repaired and properly greased, and also the wheels, so that now works great and lasts nearly three records. I have kept the original felt because it was in pretty good condition. The classiest room will come to life with this glorious luxury gramophone, a turn-of-the-century wonder with high-quality sound.
