Stunning portable gramophone with solid wooden suitcase in very good condition and with a reproducer made by G. Gilbert & Co. in England in the 1920s. The gramophone works and sounds very well the motor has been cleansed and fine-tuned in order to guarantee it. The solid wooden suitcase that contains the gramophone is quite remarkable because of its attractive and deep veneer, a feature that turns this device into a highly decorative piece. The reproducer bears the models name, Geisha, cut and shaped in the metal. We can also see the inscription C. GILBERT & Co. SHEFFIELD ENGLAND engraved in the surface. C. Gilbert & Co. was a gramophone company founded in 1922 by Charles Gilbert Hibbard. The firm kept on producing gramophones until the late thirties. The reproducer is made of chrome-plated metal and remains in good condition, just like the rest of the component parts. On the other hand, the gramophone box is made of solid chestnut wood; it is finished with a fine golden brown lacquer that enhances the veneers look and provides the surface with a delicate satin glow. The dovetail corner joins are good-looking and resistant. The suitcase preserves the original leather handle and the silvery metal shutting latches. Measurements (Closed): Width: 14.1 in / 36 cm.
