This attractive and curious piece is a suitcase gramophone made in the Soviet Union in the 1930s. The gramophone is in really good condition: the motor has been cleaned and fine-tuned in order to guarantee a good working order. This piece draws our attention for the beautiful orange lining that covers the suitcase which contains the gramophone. This lining is in great condition, showing only slight traces of wear at the corners. The suitcase keeps the original handle, also very well preserved, and the silvery hinges and closure. When we open the suitcase we find the turntable and the arm with the reproducer, both ready to play the records. We must only remove the crank and fit it in its place: the gramophone will come to life and we will enjoy its nostalgic sound. All the silvery metal component parts are in good condition, with no traces or rust and boasting an even, soft and shiny surface. The crank preserves the black bakelite handle, glossy and soft like the first day. The gramophone reproducer or soundbox is the original one. At the back it bears an engraved inscription that reads: ARTEL GRAMMOPHON LENINGRAD. These words indicate that the factory where this device was manufactured was located in the former Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg). The reproducer works perfectly too, having been equally fine-tuned to guarantee an optimal sound reproduction. This gramophones rare quality and its lovely appearance turn it into a really special piece. Because of its attractive look and great sound, this Soviet gramophone deserves a honor place in a contemporary and stylish room. Measurements (Closed): Width: 7.8 in / 29 cm. Height: 5.9 in /15 cm.
