Superb portable Sonata gramophone in excellent condition, made in Switzerland by Thorens in the 1920s. The gramophone is in perfect working order the motor has been revised and the spring is new so it sounds wonderfully and provides a great performance. On the other hand, this is a very attractive model that comes in its original solid wooden box, with the leather strap and silvery metalwork in good condition. Inside the box, the piece where the arm and the reproduced are connected bears a sticker with the Thorens logo: the Swiss flag (white cross on red background) with an anchor inside and the inscription TRADE MARK SWISS MADE. Thorens is a family business founded in 1883 in Sainte-Croiz by Hermann Thorens. In the beginning they manufactured music boxes and clock movements, but in 1903 started making phonographs. In 1928 they launched their first electric record player. Today Thorens is still active and is a company specialized in record players, vinyl and gramophone records. The gramophone preserves all its component parts, made of silvery metal and in good condition. They show slight signs of the trace of time but in general they are well preserved. The reproducer is the original one, also made by Thorens. Last but not least, the box is made of solid beech wood and is gorgeous; its light golden color and deep veener shine under the satin finish. The box bears a white plate with the name and the address of the shop where the gramophone was originally bought. As beautiful as functional, this Thorens gramophone is a real collectors piece perfect to enjoy the music from the 20s. Measurements: Width: 14.7 in / 37.5 cm. Height: 14.7 in / 11 cm.
