Wonderful Odeon horn gramophone, made in Germany circa 1902 and in very good condition. The gramophones motor has been cleaned and fine-tuned so today the device works fine, providing a clean and neat sound. The gramophone is quite well preserved: the light-colored wooden box has been restored and looks as beautiful as when it was made: the chromed-metal component parts look shiny and show no traces of rust, and the horn preserves the original bright red enameled finish. All the pieces remain fully operative. At the front side of the box we can see the Odeon decal: the dome of the famous French theater in which the record company inspired to create the brand. This company, Odeon Records, was founded in 1903 by Max Straus and Heinrich Zuntz to commercialize gramophones and music records. In 1904 they became quite popular after launching the first double-sided gramophone records, and in 1909 the company presented the first recording of a large orchestral work. By this time, Odeon Records had already been acquired by the Carl Lindström Company though the brand name remained both in records and gramophones. The gramophones box, made of solid light-colored wood, boast a soft and even surface with a lovely golden tone. Attached to one of its sides we can see the elbow that supports the arm with the reproducer and the horn. The reproducer is made of golden brass and bears the engraved Odeon Records logo too. But surely the most appealing piece of this gramophone is the magnificent horn: made of grooved metal, it bears a bright red enameled finish with golden inner and outer nerves. The finish is in very good condition, showing only slight signs of wear that provide it with personality and authenticity. This awesome antique gramophone will stand out in a classy living room, both for its beauty and its wonderful sound. Measurements: Box: Side: 12.9 in /33 cm. Height: 5.5 in / 14 cm.
