The reproducer is also original and provides a neat and evocative sound. The gramophones cover has an attached metal plate with the companys name: THORENS MADE IN SWITZERLAND. The firm was founded as a family business in 1883 in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland. It was founded by Hermann Thorens and in the beginning they produced music boxes and clocks movements. In 1903 they started making Edison-type phonographs. From then on the company is renowned for making high-quality audio equipment and the oldest models are sought-after pieces. The Excelda gramophone was launched in 1931 and kept on being produced until the mid 1940s. The pieces that make up the device (the tone arm, the crank and the reproducer) are stored inside the case and can be easily assembled in order to use the gramophone. The item that we can see in the photographs bears a fine crackled blue outer finish but there are also models with brown, black, green and red finishes. This stunning portable gramophone is considered an icon of the 20th century design, a reliable and attractive machine. Because of its magnificent condition and excellent sound, this Excelda gramophone is a piece that cannot be missing in a collection of ancient music machines. Measurements:
