Awesome and ultra rare horn gramophone with record cabinet made in Spain by His Master's Voice (Spanish branch of His Masters Voice). The set dates from the early 20th century (circa 1910) and is a very unusual article, a unique piece that does not appear in any of my books or catalogues. Both the gramophone and the cabinet are in amazing condition: the wood has been restored and look immensely beautiful, and together with the lovely art-deco design creates an exclusive and very interesting article. On the other hand, the gramophone works wonderfully the motor has been cleaned and fine-tuned to guarantee an optimal performance. It is a double-string motor with original turntable; the original felt covering is new, but the rest of the component parts are original. The device preserves two original decals in great conditions. Both show the famous image of the dog and the gramophone with the inscription His Master's Voice Sociedad Española. La Compañía del Gramófono (His Masters Voice Spanish Society. The Gramophone Company). This is the name of the Spanish subsidiary branch of the British brand His Masters Voice, created by The Gramophone Company. In 1899 the firm bought a picture that depicted the dog Nipper listening to his dead masters voice from a horn gramophone, and turned it into their brand image. Together with the name His Masters Voice, this logo became world famous. The gramophone that we can see in the images has a gorgeous original wooden horn in impeccable condition. The wood makes the sound warmer and deeper, especially when compared with the one provided by metal horns. The reproducer is an original Exhibition model mounted on a chromed-metal arm; the metal shows slight signs of wear due to the trace of time which do not interfere with the sets wonderful look. As for the cabinet, just like the gramophone box it is made of solid mahogany and red-dyed beech wood. It preserves the original roller shutter door in great condition and the shelves to store and classify the records. The locks of the drawer and door are original and remain in working order; the drawers key has been reproduced, but the doors one is the original. This Spanish His Masters Voice gramophone and cabinet set will display its beauty and wonderful sound in the dining room of a good lover of music-related antiques. Measurements:
