This gramophone from 1910 is a quality model by His Masters Voice, and it is specially remarkable because of its great condition, its excellent operation and some details, like the wooden horn or the decorative bronze plates which enhance the box. His Masters Voice (HMV) is a prestigious brand founded in 1889, when the Gramophone & Typewriter Company acquired a picture of the same title painted by Françoise Barraud. The picture showed a dog listening to its master`s voice from a record; the company began using the title of the picture and the image as its own commercial name and logo. We can see this famous scene engraved in the metal reproducer of the gramophone, just in the center. This device has all its original pieces, which work perfectly and offer a neat and clear sound. The big horn is quite impressive, being made of curved wooden veneers, probably mahogany. Horns are usually made of metal slates painted as wood. The box is also in very good condition, it is made of mahogany and has decorative plates on its four sides. In the corners there are four beautiful silvery metal pillars. The plates are made of bronze and show a bearded mans profile into an oval shape; on each side there are scenes which show three small figures dancing. The decoration that frames these images is Art Déco style, which was very popular in the beginning of the 20th century. The crank is made of iron and wood, and it is painted black. The reproducer is the original one and is held by an elegant curved arm made or black-lacquered iron, which attaches both the reproducer and the horn to the box. These two parts are joined together by a polished brass elbow. The wood of the box and the horn is beautifully varnished with the French-polish technique, which highlights the beauty and the color of the veneer. It also shows the typical warm shine of this kind of polish. Overall, this gramophone from the beginning of the 20th century is a real quality piece, in great condition and working as new. It will delight any lover of music and antiques. Measurements: Base (width): 465 mm. Total width: 680 mm. Horn moyth (diameter): 625 mm.
