Wonderful gramophone from the beginning of the 20th century, made between 1910 and 1915 by prestigious Swiss brand Thorens. It is a luxurious article with a spectacular horn made of light wood, with a beautiful black veneer. The pieces make up a highly remarkable lobed horn. Thorens is one of the most renowned and important firms in the world in the field of audio, and nowadays is still one of the most relevant ones. It was founded in Sainte-Croix (Switzerland) in 1883 to make high quality music boxes and clockwork. In 1903 the firm started making phonographs and afterwards began to make gramophones, like the one we are looking at. There are a lot of vintage gramophones which incorporate a Thorens motor, but they have been made by other firms. As well as the beautiful wooden horn which with its nice golden color and dark veneer stands out, this elegant gramophone shows a lot of interesting details. The square box is adorned by wide molding both in the base and the plate zone; it is made of dark mahogany wood and is in very good condition. We can see a polished brass detail on each side, all the same, which depict the figure of a young man playing the flute among some flowers. All the gramophones parts are original and are perfectly preserved; the apparatus provides a silent reproduction and a neat and clear sound. The motor lets us play a whole record. The reproducer is original too: it is an Edelweiss model and it has the logo of Thorens brand engraved, an anchor. We can also read the following inscription: Edelweiss Thorens Made in Switzerland. The logo (into a cross this time), the name of the company and the country are also engraved at the bottom of the motor; this fact guarantees the authenticity of the piece. In this way we can be sure that we are looking at a hundred per cent original article, which joins its great beauty to its perfect working order and high quality of reproduction. All this features turn it into a very interesting piece, which any lover of music and antiques will undoubtedly appreciate. Measurements: 380 mm base (width) x 475 mm diameter (horns mouth) x 540 mm width (horn).
