Original portable or miniature gramophone, made in the U.S.A in 1915 by Kompact brand. It is a curious small portable gramophone, whose resistance and durability has proved higher than other models. As antique as attractive, this fine gramophone has another advantage: it works perfectly and provides a wonderful sound. Its motor is quite silent and all its original components are in perfect condition and working order. The gramophone is located into a rectangular and compact box, covered by a black material which simulates crocodiles skin. The surface is in good condition, showing an elegant and deep black color enhanced by the attractive shine of the material. The shutting system and the hole for the crank, both made of metal, are also well preserved. When it is open, this sober box shows the plate (located on top of the motor, which is into the box), while inside the cover we find the rest of the pieces: the arm, the reproducer and the accessories. If we wish to listen to the records we will have to open the box, remove the arm and the crank, connect them to the mechanism and start operating the gramophone. In spite of its small size, this device can reproduce whole records. Beside the plate we can see a small plate, attached to the box, with the companys name and location: Kompact Reg. Us. Pat. Off Patent App. For Plaza Music Co. Made in USA New York. The Plaza Music Company was the common name for a group of brands, which in 1929 joined another companies like Cameo, Pathé and Scranton Button to form the ARC (American Record Company). Overall, this is a wonderful portable gramophone which, together with a nice touch for the decoration, will provide a magnificent sound that any lover of antiques music reproducers will love. Measurements (open): 495 mm length x 185 mm width.
