Great German Horn Gramophone made in the beginning of the 20th century, circa 1915. It is a beautiful item which is also in excellent condition and working order. This gramophone is a Polyphon, made in Germany for the Italian market. The Polyphon was a very popular gramophone and was mass-produced in Germany to be sold in many other countries. This one is a first class piece, with all its original components and really beautiful. The different woods of the box, the impressive red-lacquered lobed metal trumpet and the shiny chromed parts turn it into a great piece. The box is made of different types of wood. The base and the side frames are made of walnut, while the side panels are of some lightwood and the front oval detail is made of dark oak wood. This piece bears a round golden plate with the word POLYPHON, a logo depicting a figure holding a harp and the inscription Marque de Fabrique - Schulz Marke Trade Mark. Just beside the record plate there is a small brass piece with the words Adagio, Presto and Normal (Slow, Fast and Normal) engraved, so the user can select the speed needed to play the records. The trumpet, as stated before, is an exceptional piece. The shiny red lacquer is in good condition and the metal has no bumps, dents or signs of pitting. The mouth has a lovely lobed shape, typical of the gramophones which were made in the first decades of the 20th century. The metal is fully engraved with decorative motives, both inside and outside. The motor and the reproducer are both original and the gramophone works perfectly, providing a neat and clear sound which is surely a treat for the ears. This vintage gramophone is the ideal piece for the smartest living room or the best collection of antique musical articles. Measurements: Box: 345 mm width.
