This gramophone is a spectacular Pathephone No. 8, made in France circa 1915. This was a Pathé deluxe edition, one of the most luxurious of its time. It was enormously expensive compared to others and few units were made. Today it is one of the most sought after and sought after gramophones by collectors. As you can see, it has a very well preserved blue horn. The case is made of tropical mahogany wood, hand carved, with four corner columns also made of mahogany and moldings on the sides. Absolutely all the parts are original of the period. The motor is overhauled and runs super quiet. The crank is the original vintage crank. The chrome plating is original. We have only polished them to restore their beauty. The felt on the plate spinner is the only thing we have replaced. We have put one with its original color.Pathé gramophones were made to work with Pathé discs for sapphire needles. These discs, contrary to the normal gramophone discs that work at 78 rpm, worked between 90 and 100 rpm. That is why the speed regulator indicator is engraved with a scale between 85 and 110 rpm. These Pathé records only sounded good with Pathé reproducers with sapphire stylus, which were mounted perpendicular to the record groove instead of parallel to the groove like all other brands. Pathé discs did not sound as good as steel stylus discs. Pathé was the only brand that manufactured its own equipment for these records, however, already at that time, there was a much greater variety of 78 rpm records for steel styli than Pathé sapphire records, and besides, the steel stylus records sounded much better than Pathé records because they transmitted the vibration of the groove through the steel stylus much better. For that reason already at that time, several adapters were manufactured to adapt these gramophones to read 78 rpm records. This Pathé gramophone has one of those adapters and a steel needle reproducer in perfect condition. Both are vintage and are in very good condition. Additionally we have calibrated the gramophone and we have lowered a little its natural speed so that it spins at 78 rpm instead of 100 rpm. Right now it is adapted to be able to work perfectly with normal gramophone records, of 78 rpm. This is a great advantage because you can still find hundreds of gramophone records in the flea markets all over Spain and the most abundant ones are 78 rpm records to be able to play them in this gramophone. Pathé records can also be found, but the proportion is 50 to 1. For each Pathé record that is found, there are 50 78 rpm gramophone records. The arm adapter to be able to work with steel needle reproducers is original vintage made for Pathé machines. The reproducer is from the same period. Even the rear screws that adjust the arm support with the mahogany box, are original of the period. The motor lasts long enough to play a large 30 cm disc. There are 25 cms like the one in the video and 30 cms, of longer duration. The brake works very well and is very adjusted. The lot includes:- The gramophone - A pair of record albums, full of records.
