Gorgeous antique English gramophone in amazing condition, made circa 1925 and in fine working order. This piece is an amazing example of the arts and crafts from the beginning of the 20th century. Its inherent beauty combines with a high-quality motor which has been fully cleaned and fine-tuned. The gramophone sounds great and in general it its a highly interesting piece for any collector or lover of state-of-the-art antiques. The box is made of solid mahogany wood and seems to have been rebuilt some time ago (at least, part of it) by a professional cabinetmaker. It mounts a stepped base, exempt columns at the corners and light-colored mahogany side panels that create a lovely color mixture with the dark red wooden structure. The side panels are embellished with ormolu details, original from the time and in very good condition. The chrome-plated component parts (knobs, crank, reproducer, arm and elbow) are also greatly preserved, looking shiny and with no remarkable worn parts. The reproducer bears the brand name DECCA engraved in the metal with fine art-deco-style lettering, and the metal elbow that connects the arm with the box is decorated with fine engraved volutes too. Just like the box, the horn that crowns this gramophone is made of two different types of wood, light and darker. The gramophone has a GARRARD Nº 12 motor, with the inscription MADE IN ENGLAND. Garrard was founded in 1791; in the beginning they were jewelers, and one of their duties was to maintain and keep the famous Royal Crown Jewels. In 1914 they entered the field of mechanical engineering, and after World War I started to manufacture gramophone motors. For its elegance and quality, this antique English gramophone with wooden horn will shine in the most stylish room and will become the star of the decoration.
