Antique Spanish Phono-Barcelonesa Gramophone. Spain, 1920

Rare antique horn gramophone made in Barcelona, Spain in 1920, in excellent condition and very good working order. This item was made by Phono-Barcelonesa, a gramophone company located in San Pablo 94 street in Barcelona. This firm usually commercialized gramophones made by other companies but eventually they started making their own items. One of their most peculiar gramophone was the one known as two-store whose box had an ample bottom drawer designed to store needles, records etc. The gramophone that we can see in the images is a very rare and special design that preserves all its original component parts and pieces. The only element which has been replaced is the metal piece that connects the horn with the elbow. The gramophones box shows off a fine art-deco-style design with light-colored wooden side panels and dark-mahogany-finished structure. It mounts a molded base and the sides are made of dark trellis panels which let us see the light-colored wooden planks behind. This combination creates a balanced and elegant piece. The front side is embellished with two delicate lire-shaped brass details. At the top of the box there are two original metal plates: one of them bears the manufacturers engraved name and address and the other is for the distributor (MÁQUINAS PARLANTES DE G. SOLIVA). The motor hiding inside the box was made in Switzerland and is a high-quality piece. It has been thoroughly cleaned and fine-tuned to ensure an excellent performance. The stunning conical-shaped horn is connected to the reproducer by a silvery metal arm in perfect condition; the elbow that connects these elements to the box is made of the same material. The reproducer is a Saturn model and is very well preserved too. Last but not least, the stylish horn is made of solid wood and bears a gorgeous French-polish finish that provides it with a lovely satin glow.
