Antique Peter Pan Folding Traveling Gramophone. Switzerland, 1923.

Antique Peter Pan foldable travel gramophone made in Switzerland in 1923 and in very good condition. This singular device is in fine working order and can play turn-of-the-century gramophone records with a neat and clear sound. All the gramophones component parts and pieces are original from the period. Peter Pan was the name of the company that produced this model between 1923 and 1926. It was a British company called Peter Pan Gramophone Ltd. and was located in Gerrard St. / Frith St, London. Though the factory was founded in England, these gramophone were also produced in other countries such as Switzerland (in fact, the motors were made in this country, usually by Thorens). The gramophone that we can see in the images is a foldable travel model. These items were known as camera gramophones as they looked very much like photo cameras when folded. They were quite popular in the 1920s. It is composed of a black-leatherette-covered box than can be opened to display the mechanism. This is made up of different chromed-metal component parts, all of them original from the period and in amazing condition. The metal shows no signs of rust, wear or dents. The mechanism includes a telescopic horn, a fold out turntable and a flexible speaker. The reproducer is the original one, with a red background and the printed inscription PETER PAN BREVETÉ S.G.D.G. SWISS MADE. Riveted to the box there are two identification brass plates. One of them is attached to the inner side of the front lid and bears the engraved PETER PAN name. The other one is painted black and bears the original distributors name: G. JANDELLI from Béziers (France). The gramophone keeps the original crank with wooden handle and the leather carrying handle. It can be easily unfolded and folded too. This antique Peter Pan foldable travel gramophone preserves today all its nostalgic feeling, being such an authentic and decorative piece.
