Antique Sphinx portable gramophone made in England in 1930, in excellent working order and with a fine decorative touch. This fine article shows off an original and attractive look, making it possible to play old-time records and enjoy their evocative sound. The wooden box which contains the motor is in fine condition, with no broken or deformed parts. It has a gorgeous faux-crocodile outside covering in ochre and black colors which really draws our attention. The fabric is extremely well crafted; the print shows different shapes and shades that provide this item with quite a modern look. The box preserves the original leather handle and suitcase lock in fine condition too. Inside we can see the metal turntable attached to a fixed wooden plank, together with the rest of the component parts: the arm, the reproducer and the crank. The arm with the reproducer must be connected to the metal socket of the cover so the gramophone can be mounted and play records. Inside the box is covered of faux-leather fabric; we can see an inscription with the logo and the model (Sphinx Portable) printed on its surface. It is somewhat worn but still perfectly legible. The reproducer has a White and red paper label with the inscription SPHINX STANDARD protected by a glass pane. The metal device with the needle bears a small engraved anchor, clearly marked on the surface. The chromed-metal the different component parts are made is in good condition: it looks shiny, even and with almost no traces of rust. We can just appreciate a few flaws on the arms metal surface; this is logical as the gramophone is almost one hundred years old. This antique Sphinx portable gramophone will shine in a stylish room for its lovely aesthetic and good sound. Measurements (Closed): Width: 6 in / 15 cm. Depth: 8.4 in / 21 cm.
