Antique European Monarch HMV Gramophone. France, 1903

Antique European Monarch gramophone made in France in 1903, in stunning condition and perfect working order. This is a very special item, an equally decorative and original piece the motor, the box, the decal and the horn have survived to our days in optimal condition. The only component part which has been replaced is the leather elbow that connects the horn and the reproducer. These pieces usually wear out with the trace of time and the use, so the original ones are commonly missing. This detail, though, does not interfere at all with the wonderful look of the gramophone and makes it possible to enjoy its loud and clear sound and amazing presence. The gramophone mounts a bronze motor with a powerful spring that enhances the sound quality. It has been thoroughly cleaned and tuned in order to guarantee a perfect performance. The box which hides the motor is made of solid-oak wood and shows off a classic and stately aesthetic, with a fine carved decoration that adorns it beautifully. The decoration is composed of a band with volutes at the base, a cord-like border at the top, cylindrical pillars at the corners and recessed panels with friezes at the sides. All these details have been carved by hand and show off an uncommon beauty. The wood is protected by a gorgeous French-polish finish that provides it with a fine stylish glow. At the front side of the gramophone there is an original decal, slightly worn, with the brand logo. The image depicts an angel playing a record with a feather. We can also read the manufacturing companys name, the Cie. FRANÇAISE du GRAMPOPHONE from Paris. This company was a subsidiary of The Gramophone Company and was created in 1898. The Gramophone Company was one of the first record companies in history; in 1899 they adopted the famous logo depicting a dog listening to a gramophone which would soon become His Masters Voice brand. The gramophone includes an original Exhibition reproducer in fine condition, connected to the stunning silvery-metal horn.
