Antique Gipsy Phonograph Gramophone. The Smallest. France, Circa 1920
Rare antique Gipsy phonograph or gramophone, the smallest in the world, made in France circa 1920 and in very good condition. This is the smallest gramophone ever made and measures only 6.29 x 3.34 in, so it can be held in the palm of the hand. It works very well; the motor can play a full disc without any problem, although when the motor is fully loaded, the brake slips a bit. Speaking of the brake, this particular device incorporates one, which is very rare, since earlier versions did not have a brake, so I guess this is a late version. All its component parts are original from the time and are well preserved, except for the rubber piece which connects the horn and the reproducer, which is deteriorated. This material does not stand well the trace of time; for this reason a replica of this piece, of current manufacture, is supplied with the gramophone so that it can be replaced at any time if desired. The reproducer is an original GIPSY model in excellent condition. The whole mechanism is stored and protected into a light-brown leather suitcase, finely preserved and with intact seams.
Any lover of the most special old-time devices will surely appreciate the exclusive quality of this rare antique Gipsy phonograph or gramophone, the smallest gramophone in the world.
