Striking Excelda pocket gramophone, a great piece that was very popular in the early 20th century. This nice model is a vintage jewel that combines a fine design with an excellent condition and an optimal working order. The gramophone boasts a crackled green outside finish and a small design. It was made in Switzerland in the 1930s and keeps all its original component parts and pieces. The compact design and small size of these reproducers were the reasons of they being known as cameraphones, as they resembled small cameras.The name Thorens Excelda is applied to the portable gramophones that the Swiss brand Thorens manufactured in the 1930s and 40s. Their nice and comfortable design turned these reproducers into very successful articles. They are high quality devices, as the wonderful working order of this particular gramophone illustrates. When folded, inside the case we can easily dispose the arm with the original reproducer, the diaphragm and the lever.The Excelda was also launched in blue, brown, red and black finishes. As stated before, this model boasts a green crackled original finish that has been restored in some places. To operate this gramophone the user has to remove the lid and put the arm with the reproducer in its place. The crank must be inserted into the side hole. At the top we can see a small white plate with a black number: 2268.
