This incredible item is a Colibri gramophone, a portable record player that became very popular in the time it was made, the 1920s. This gramophone followed that times fashion that turned portable gramophone in popular objects, and very famous models such as the Thorens Excelda o this one, the Colibri, were launched in those days. This gramophone was made in Belgium though the diaphragm and the motor were made in Switzerland. The Colibri was one of the smallest record players ever made and could play 10-inch records in spite of its small size: just 12.7 cm across when closed. This particular piece is in very good condition and works perfectly, providing a clear and neat sound. All its components are original, including the outside blue leather strap designed to carry the gramophone and that bears the embossed name of the item and the country of making. On the other hand, the case is externally covered of blue faux-leather, typical of the gramophones design and in very good condition. The place where the records must be put on in order to play them is somewhat worn, something due to the use and the devices ancient age. Nevertheless we can still see a good part of the printed white logo that depicts a colibri, the French word for hummingbird. This logo appears again (together with the word COLIBRI) in the original reproducer. At the metal arms base we can see an engraved inscription that reads: SWISS MADE, indicating that some pieces and components were made in Switzerland. We can also read the gramophones engraved serial number: 22352.This charming and exclusive Colibri portable gramophone could be the perfect item to complete a good collection with the best historical talking machines of the 20th century.Measurements: Width: 120 mm.
