19th Century French Gold and Garnet Photo Frame Pendant. In Very Good Condition

Fine locket made of gold and garnets. This piece was made in France in the 19th century, and its beauty joins with its antique and the value of the materials it is made of, to create an exceptional jewel. The locket is made of 18K gold and has a hallmark. It is in great condition, with all its original parts, settings and precious stones. Oval in shape, the locket is surrounded by a nice decoration of symmetrical volutes, and it has an openwork front. He jewel has nine garnets in all: eight small ones surrounding the piece and a bigger one in the center. This stones deep red tone makes a fine contrast with the bright yellow gold. The locket can be opened, and inside the jewel there is an oval capsule intended to put a photograph in. The upper ring, designed to pass a chain through in order to hang the jewel from the neck, is also finely engraved with embossed motives at the front. It bears a French hallmark for 18K gold, shaped like an eagle head. All the parts are made of high quality gold, from the locket to the ring. The metal is splendorous, shiny and clean and with no bumped or missing parts. Lockets were very popular jewels in the past that let their users carry their beloved ones image with them. They were also designed to contain hair locks which belonged to some who the owner of the locket cared for. Some designs even had a small pillow inside, intended to pour and preserve a drop of perfume.
