It is made of brass and silver metal, and stands on a solid pinewood plank. All its component parts are original from the time and make up a great piece for any collector of technical antiques. One of the testers metal parts located on the left side of the article bears the inscription JOHN NESBITT LTD. MANCHESTER clearly engraved in its surface. This name corresponds to the business that the inventor of the same name started in 42 Market Street, Manchester. The workshop manufactured instruments for the textile industry, such as weighing scales, yarn balances, wrap reels. In 1913 John Nesbitt took over scale makers H. Sutcliffe & Co, also located in Manchester. This particular tester mounts a calibrated and adjustable bed with a geared handle and a revolving clamp grip. The thread must be attached between the handle and the grip so the user can turn it, while the scaled wheel points the materials torsional strength.
