This impressive bronze mantel clock and candelabra set is a French article made in 1900. It has survived to our days in strikingly good condition and the clock works wonderfully. The movement has been fully cleaned to guarantee its good operation. The set is baroque in style with a lot of moldings, details and volutes that provide the three pieces with an unmistakable charm. The clocks movement is signed by Japy Fréres and bears the engraved serial number 24223.Japy Fréres is the name of the familiar company that Frédéric Japy founded in Beaucourt, France, in the 18th century. As well as being a watchmaker, Japy was also famous for inventing a great number of mechanical devices. There is a museum dedicated to him in Beaucourt. The clock we can see in these images keeps the original movement with all its component parts and pieces. The clocks box, just like the candelabra, is made of golden bronze. It stands on a complicated base supported by six small legs. At the front of the base there is a nice engraved medal with a youthful face. The circular face is supported by a filigree structure; it is made of white porcelain with black Arab numbers. The top of the watch is profusely decorated with intricate volutes and crowned by a bell-shaped piece. The twin candelabra, on the other hand, have a base like the clocks one but in this case there is no medal. Over the base we can see a cup-shaped piece that holds the six candleholders: one at the top and five just below it. On top of the highest candleholder we can see a piece composed of two symmetrical volutes, crowned by a bronze fleur-de-lis.With its great decorative beauty, this bronze clock and candelabra set will shine on the most aristocratic mantelpiece.Measurements: Clock: Width: 11.8 in/30 cm.
