Wooden Mantel Clock in Neoclassical Style. Germany, Circa 1900

This antique mantel clock is a quality and stylish piece made by the HAC (Hamburg American Clock) en Germany circa 1900. It is in excellent condition and has been fully restored, so nowadays it looks great. The movement has also been cleaned and fine-tuned and now it works perfectly, chiming the hours and halves on a gong. The clocks box is made of solid oak wood with a fine light golden color, with beautiful carved and turned details that embellish it with a classic and sober style. At the back of the clock we find a door that let us reach the movement. Inside this door there are two labels, one of which bears a monogram composed of two crossed arrows. The monogram is also engraved in the movement, in the brass body and in an iron piece. This mark identifies clocks made by the H.A.C. (Hamburg American Clock), also known as Hamburg Amerikanische Uhrenfabrik (H.A.U.), a company founded in 1876 by Paul Landenburger, Erhards widow son-in-law and then accountant manager of the firm founded by the latter. The HAC was quite noted for its magnificent designs and in 1930 it eventually became part of powerful Junghans. The light golden brown color of the oak wood provides the design with a singular lightness, a feature that matches perfectly the sober neoclassic motives (columns, fringes and turned pieces) that embellish the box. The clocks face is made of golden brass and porcelain, with elegant black Roman numbers and red decorative details. As stated before, inside the back door there are two labels; one of them bears the printed initials HAC, the companys monogram and the inscription 14 day strike Made in Württenberg. The other bears the printed serial number Nº 3039. This great clocks ancient age and elegant beauty will shine in a prominent place, in the classiest living room.
