This amazing mantel clock and candelabra set comes from France and was made of cast bronze in the 19th century. Its decorative beauty is enhanced by the quality of its movement, having been revised and fine-tuned in order to provide an impeccable working order. The clock bears the serial number 3526 engraved at the back; this number is also engraved in the pendulum bob and the movement. The fact that all the pieces have matching serial numbers, indicates that they were made at the same time and by the same manufacturer. At the front side, the clock boasts a fine White porcelain face with black Roman numbers and Arab numbers for the minutes. The face is protected by a circular door that preserves the original glass pane. The hands are made of golden metal, with a nice design composed of thin curves and volutes that make up a filigree composition. At the back of the box we can see a mark beside the serial number: a capital J letter. On the other hand, the movement bears a mark with the inscription J. Marti & Cie, corresponding to a noted French watchmaker from the time. This attractive set is full of lovely details. The clock and the twin candelabra stand on four airy legs each, showing off a decoration rich in volutes and garlands, very much to the taste of the neoclassical style. The candelabra have five lights each. At the center of the base, the three pieces bear an interesting motive: the image of two torches crossed and tied by a ribbon. It is a Masonic symbol: the torch represents the purification through the illumination and the tied ribbon symbolizes the union between masons. With its remarkable beauty and undeniable quality, this set will shine on an elegant mantelpiece or on a noble wooden sideboard. Measurements: Clock: Width: 12.5 in/32 cm. Height: 21.2 in/54 cm.
