This beautiful and antique mantel clock with solid walnut wooden box and in perfect working order is a Junghans model, made in Germany in the late 19th century (circa 1890). It is a pendulum design made for export and fully restored and fine-tuned: nowadays the clock boasts a great beauty and works wonderfully. The movement chimes the hour and the halves, guaranteeing the precision and reliability related to the German clockmaker brand. Its classic aesthetic turns it into a very decorative item, perfect to provide any room with a touch of class. The movement has been checked, tuned and oiled by an professional clockmaker. If we open the rear door, we will see that the inner movement bears the embossed Junghans logo: two crossed arrows pointing upwards. The clockmaker brand was founded in 1851 by Erhard Junghans and his brother in law, Jakob Zeller-Tobler, in Schramberg. Some of the companys designs are part of the collections of famous museums such as the MOMA in New York, where a magnificent wall clock created by designer Max Bill in 1956-57 can be seen. Junghans is currently a powerful multinational with a presence in the area of defense technology, among other fields. This clocks box is made of hand-carved solid walnut wood, very well preserved and with delicate neoclassic-inspired ornamental details. At the front two grooved semi-columns flank the clocks face, and over the molded base we can see a frieze composed of brass hemispheres and wooden quadroons. The box is crowned by a showy ornamental group composed of three pinnacles and with a brass hemisphere in the center. The clocks face, protected by a glass door, is made of golden brass and silvery metal. The Arab numbers are painted in black and the original key is preserved. Inside the rear door there is an ald paper sticker with the printed 3106 printed in black. RESTORATION PROCESS: Mainly, the clock has needed a thorough cleaning and a new finish. The box had some pieces that was moving and were taking off because the old glue tends to crystallize. Also had layers and layers of old wax giving the clock a dark-black color, so dark that you couldnt see the wood grain. It was cleaned and the old wax removed, all moving parts restored and was given a satin finish. A professional clockmaker reviewed and adjusted the movement and the gong. Now the watch looks great, works wonderfully and its prepared to last many, many years. With its sober elegance and its ancient age, this Junghans clock is a real jewel and a highly decorative piece.
