Awesome pendulum mantel clock with bronze box and in perfect condition. This article was made in France in the 19th century; its movement chimes the hours and the halves and has been cleaned and fine-tuned to guarantee a perfect working order. The clock is also a remarkable piece because of its box, a wonderful romantic-inspired design of sculptural style that depicts an allegory of the country. The box is composed of a classical base with a pedestal on top and the clocks face in the center. In front of the base we can see a figure depicting a small boy sitting in a gracious and spontaneous pose. The kid is dressed in a simple way; this figure probably depicts a country kid. He is carrying a basket in his right hand and feeds a pair of birds with his left hand. The pedestal is flanked by two classical-inspired symmetrical volutes, and the clocks face is located between them. It has white background and blue Roman numbers, with black Arab numbers for the minutes. At the back there is a small glass door that lets us reach the clocks movement. The movement bears the serial number engraved in the metal this number is also engraved in the pendulum bob. We can also see a circular mark with the inscription MEDAILLE DE BRONZE and the manufacturers name, J Marti & Cie. Turning to the clocks decoration again, the face is crowned by a gorgeous sculptural group depicting a cock and a hen sitting on top of a bunch of leaves and stalks that fall on both sides of the box in an asymmetrical way. This detail provides the clock with a great beauty and turns it into a state-of-art piece.
