This beautiful piece is an antique oil clock, also known as the poors clock. With a notable beauty and decorative power, this clock was made in Europe in the 19th century and has survived to our days in excellent condition. The glass deposit is the original one and is quite well preserved, with no cracks or flaws. The clock is made of tin and boasts a very attractive, functional and stylized design. These clocks are rare and antique pieces, very sought after by collectors of special articles. Oil clocks are also known as silent clocks as they have no movement whose sound reveals the inner operation. They work in a simple and efficient way they have a blown glass or translucent porcelain flask or deposit containing oil (usually whale oil). The flask feeds a small oil lamp; when the wick burns, the oil gradually disappears and its level lowers. The level indicates the hour in a numbered scale located at one side. These instruments were not very precise but they let the user know the time of the day in a approximate and economical way. The clock that we can see in these images preserves all the charm of these ingenious items. The bright green flask boasts its lovely color in a nice contrast with the shiny metal. One of the sides of the tin plate that surrounds and supports the flask bears twenty-four engraved Roman numbers indicating the hours of the day. The halves are indicated by short dashes. Its stylized design and ancient age turn this oil clock into a charming item, perfect for a good collection of special pieces. Measurements: Width: 5.1 in / 13 cm. Height: 14.1 in / 36 cm.
