Impressive antique mantel clock with carved wooden case, metal face with golden details and chiming the hours and the halves. The clock was made in Germany in the early 20th century (circa 1900) and works perfectly its movement has been carefully checked in order to guarantee an optimal performance. The stunning walnut wooden case has also been fully restored and now it shows off an almost flawless look, with the fine gloss that the French-polish finish creates on the lovely golden brown surface. At the back of the clock there is a small door that lets us reach the movement. Engraved in the brass body we can see the manufacturers mark, a star with the word JUNGHANS inside. The firm was founded in 1851 by Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-lay, Jakob Zeller-Tobler, in Schramberg (Germany). They started with a small workshop, but with the trace of time the company would become one of the most important clockmakers at global level. Junghans clocks are characterized for their quality and beauty, and some of them are part of the collection of prestigious museums such as the MOMA in New York. This clock is a good example of their magnificent designs. The clocks case is architectural in style with clear neoclassical influences. It is made of walnut wood and is decorated with a lot of remarkable carved details. The design is a real display of spiral columns, pineapple-shaped crowning pieces, friezes and moldings that make up a balanced and elegant set. The metal face is also lovely, with its black Arab numbers and embellished with golden details that reinforce its classic character.
