Delicate gilt-bronze (ormolu) mantel clock, wonderfully preserved and in working order. This lovely clock comes from France and was made in the 19th century. It is a sculptural design that stands out for its delicacy and beautiful aesthetic, composed of a base with a bronze figure standing on it and carrying different symbols. The figure sits on the clocks face, made of gilt bronze and with black hands and Roman numbers. The movement mounts a thread pendulum and works perfectly as it has been fully checked and cleaned. The base is rectangular in shape and stands on four small legs. Over the base there is another rectangular piece with the front side decorated with the engraved image of God: a triangle with an eye surrounded by sunbeams and in a cloud-scattered sky. The clocks face rests on this rectangular piece, embedded into a black bronze block shaped like a group or rocks. The female ormolu figure sits on top of the clocks face. This figure is clearly an allegory of the Christian religion. It depicts a young woman dressed in classic robes and with a veil on her head. With her right arm she is holding a cross with a cloth hanging from it, and with the left hand she is holding the Tables of the Law. These symbols correspond to the New and Old Testaments respectively. On the other hand, to the right of the clocks face there are two more allegoric elements: a palm (symbol of the Christian martyrdom) and a book with a radiant cross (probably the Bible). The clocks face bears the following printed inscription: Cailly á Rouen. All the lovers of delicate antique clocks will find a treasure in this sculptural model, a piece worthy of a great collection.
