Mantel Clock with Chime, France, 19th Century.

This is an impressive French desktop clock, made of bronze dated in XIX century. And in a perfect condition, it is a superb clock because of its high ornamental feature and his size. It has a pendulum-type machinery Paris-style and it has an eight days lasting chiming every hour and every half an hour. Dated in the last third of the nineteenth century and of French origin, it is accompanied by two splendid massive candelabra. Made of bronze, highly decorated with patterns in relief, engraved and pierced, its shape represents a wide support of Baroque inspiration because of its rich decorative elements originated in Baroque classicism of Louis XIV as we can tell through typical elements of this style as the acanthus or struts. It is has a rectangular base, the top being finished in a round line following the shape of the sphere. The whole figure is topped by a spire like sculptural form. The rich ornamentation is enviable, all of it visually delightful, rich plant patterns, animals and mythological motifs such as Corinthian capital columns, tawny head, human effigies, winged dragons, etc. Even the rear face, which is usually hidden in the place where the clock is located, is worked with sinuous shapes engraved on metal. The area is noted for its spotless aspect of conservation. We can read the roman date written on its white enamel, in Black numbers and other beautiful decorative details between them, this time in red tone. The machinery is signed by Japy Freres & Co., manufacturers, in this case the clock chimes at every quarter of an hour. The set includes the pendulum and the original key. The candelabra are of five-lighted. They follow the same standards of style and are decorated with abundant plants and animals mentioned for the clock above, although this one can be remarkable for its general slim shape. Each of the three elements of the set are presented on a black lacquered wood which follows the shape of their bases. Its three main edges are beautifully finished in trim and decorated with fine gold paint. A beautiful set that cannot be left unnoticed in a room.
